Appothecary LABS

Appothecary Labs · an independent app studio

Software, carefully formulated.

We build apps the way a good apothecary mixed remedies: measured twice, tested before anyone relies on them, and labelled honestly. First on the shelf: Point&Churn.

In the lab

More formulas in development.

When something is ready, it gets a proper label and a place on the table. Not before.

Elements 5–9 · Process

Our formula

Rs+Pt+Ts+Sg⇌Rw

⇌ reversible: if a release misbehaves, it rolls back automatically.

  1. Step 1 of 5

    Research

Start from a real problem — ideally one we have ourselves — and write down what “solved” looks like before anything gets built.

  2. Step 2 of 5

    Prototype

Build the smallest version that could work, with plain language on every screen from the very first draft.

  3. Step 3 of 5

    Test everything

Every change ships with a test that fails without it. Over 3,000 automated tests run before anything goes live.

  4. Step 4 of 5

    Stage & verify

A staging copy gets every change first. Production only happens after a person checks it and promotes it.

  5. Step 5 of 5

    Release & watch

A misbehaving release rolls back on its own. Nightly sweeps check security, data safety, privacy and accessibility — every finding fixed or tracked.

Elements 10–14 · Principles

Principles

The properties that stay constant, whatever we build. Think of them as what's printed on every label.

Privacy first

Your data stays yours: kept separate, backed up with encryption, and never sold. No ads, ever. AI only sees what you choose to send it.

Tested before trusted

A change isn't finished until a test proves it works — and proves it would have caught the problem it fixes.

Plain language

Screens, alerts and terms are written so a normal person understands them the first time. If it needs a glossary, it needs rewriting.

Built to last

Staging, automatic rollback and off-site backups exist so that mistakes stay small and recoverable.

Listen, then build

Member ideas and bug reports shape what comes next. We study how people actually use an app, then build what fits their needs, not ours.

“Nothing should ever be able to wipe a member's data.”

Element 1 · Studio

About the studio

App+apothecary→Appothecary

An apothecary measured carefully, mixed in small batches and labelled every bottle with what was actually inside. We think software deserves the same care, so we borrowed the name.

Appothecary Labs is an independent app studio founded by Louis. Like a good apothecary, we don't hand out one-size-fits-all: we study each problem closely and build apps that adapt to the people using them, with their data kept private.

Our mission: to build careful, private apps that help people manage the things that matter to them, tested before they're trusted and written in plain language.

Our vision: a shelf of trusted apps, each one solving a real problem well, labelled honestly, and built to the same careful standard.
